To start to address these technical challenges, the HVDC Centre with the support of ESO connections team commissioned the COMPOSITE project with RTE International to identify practical guidelines and best practices for composite testing and compliance of complex electricity connections, leveraging the experience we share across multi-vendor and multi-device testing we have delivered.

This joint webcast by HVDC Centre in collaboration with RTE International and EMTP® will describe key findings and lessons learned from the COMPOSITE project, including a demonstration of EMTP® modelling the composite models and their test cases.

Based on these models, detailed EMTP results are presented and modal analysis is applied to help explaining some of the identified issues and provide mitigation. Finally, a recently proposed Abstract : Recently, field events involving adverse interaction between grid-connected inverters and the existing power infrastructure have been reported. Hence, the ever increasing integration of such devices is yielding the need for detailed EMT-Type models to better understand such phenomena, as well as reliable screening methodologies for the efficient identification of potentially critical scenarios during new interconnection processes. This work provides an overview of recently proposed generic EMTP wind turbine models, which have been validated against field measurements, and a benchmark study system for the assessment of low-frequency interactions (sub-synchronous control interaction) involving wind farms in radial series-compensated grids. Based on these models, detailed EMTP results are presented and modal analysis is applied to help explaining some of the identified issues and provide mitigation. Finally, a recently proposed methodology aiming at the efficient identification of critical scenarios, namely, the DQ-Scanning technique, is outlined and its effectiveness demonstrated by its application to the aforementioned systems. <h2 class="title">EMTP Europe User Conference 2019 </h2> <p class="tagline"><b>The EMTP User Conference pres... see moreentations are now available online!</b></p> <p id="text-intro"><b>Influence of HVDC Controls on Transient Stability of Synchronous Machines</b><br> With the energy transition in France and in Europe, the transmission grid is strongly impacted by the forthcoming connection of power electronics devices, such as offshore wind farms and HVDC interconnections. These new devices use power electronics converters that generate transients which are usually more complex to analyzed than for standard AC devices, in particular during faults. These phenomena can have an impact on the grid stability.<br> The presentation will focus on the transient stability studies of synchronous generator influenced by power electronics devices. The objective is to compare the critical fault clearing time for different fault locations, fault conditions and different HVDC converter fault ride through control strategies. Generic test cases as well as real scenarios are considered. In this study, the critical time is obtained with bisection method thanks to the new parameter sweep toolbox.
